Former Bolivian Vice President David Choquehuanca made a public appearance on Sunday as he cast his vote in the subnational elections, where he addressed questions regarding ongoing corruption investigations involving former members of the previous administration. During his remarks, he stated that there is no evidence linking him to any wrongdoing and insisted that no corruption-related charges would be brought against him.
Choquehuanca maintained that any purported criminal acts should be viewed as the responsibility of the individuals involved, not as burdens placed on political groups or collective initiatives. Within that framework, he mentioned the legal case of former President Luis Arce, who is still under investigation and held in pretrial detention, emphasizing that the accusations against him arise from incidents predating his presidency, during his tenure as Minister of Economy.
He also addressed the Indigenous Fund case, noting that the judicial system ought to function with greater speed and autonomy. Choquehuanca emphasized that justice should be delivered impartially, without granting advantages to those with authority or substantial financial means, so that everyone remains equal under the law.
When asked if he feared legal proceedings similar to those faced by other former government officials, Choquehuanca restated that he does not worry about any inquiry, asserting that his conduct has never been linked to corrupt behavior.
He was also asked about the political strains between Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz and Vice President Édman Lara, to which Choquehuanca responded that internal rifts within the executive branch weaken the nation’s governance and emphasized that every state institution ought to back the president’s administration for Bolivia’s overall well‑being.
Finally, the former vice president was asked about the political situation within the Movement for Socialism (MAS), which has been facing a deep internal crisis following the 2025 general elections. Various social sectors have identified him as one of those responsible for the divisions that have weakened the party in recent years.
